About us
In 1933, Dolors Saurat Canal, daughter of Hotel Saurat of Espot and Daniel Canut Navarri started in the “hospitality profession” by converting their manor house in the hostel Fonda Rebirat, located on the outskirts of the village of Espui, next to the road, whose motto was “healthy and cheap meals”.
In 1943, the company Energía Eléctrica de Catalunya (E.E.C.), after named FECSA, offered them for rent the Hotel they had in the town of Central de Capdella, and also the service of a butcher shop and a colonial store incorporated in the same building, and must always be open by contract, leading it Dolors Saurat Canal and one of his four sons, Daniel Canut Saurat.
The premature death of Dolors, in 1950, led the couple Daniel Canut Saurat and Maria Hereu Gallart to take over the Hotel E.E.C.
In 1952 Daniel Canut Saurat took charge of the Food and Cleaning of the FECSA Children’s Colony in the town of Molinos during the summer months.
In 1970 Daniel Canut Saurat and Maria Hereu Gallart, with their sons Miquel and Pere, inaugured the Hostal Vall Fosca in the town of Molinos, where the FECSA Children’s Colony was located.
During these 50 years it has had several renovations being today a 3-star hotel. In 1990 Miquel Canut Hereu and Gloria Ripollès Cebrià took over the management of the hotel.
Throughout these three generations and the many collaborators who have helped them, their objective has been that “this profession of hospitality” is written in capital letters.
We are a family hotel with three generations offering the generous and humble “office of hospitality”. Thanks to our privileged location next to the Flamisell river, with native trouts, in the Vall Fosca, a Pyrenean valley of quaternary glacial formation, surrounded by mountains (with peaks that exceed 3.000 m above sea level), we offer not only spectacular views but also an oasis of peace, purity, nature and fauna.
We are located at the southern foot of the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park (which means “tortuous waters”), which can be accessed at 2.200 m. above sea level through the cable car (in 14 minutes it saves a 450 m. drop) that takes us to lake Gento. It is one of the most 20 crystalline lakes, which together with meandering streams, rushing rivers and stormy waterfalls are part of this unique park. The fauna stands out by the presence of the capercaille, the golden eagle, the bearded vulture, the griffon vulture, the rock ptarmigan or the wallcreeper.
Rooms of the Hotel Vall Fosca
The Hotel Vall Fosca 3*** has 21 comfortable and very cosy rooms, all of them in a mountain style and exterior to enjoy the nature that surrounds it. With views of its two landscaped swimming pools and the sports area, the mountains that surround it, you can enjoy the pleasant sound and freshness of the Flamisell river that flows on its west side, and the waterfall of Les Espones ravine on its east side, both annexes to the hotel, as well as breathing the fresh air and admiring the Starlight sky, certified by UNESCO, at night.
Surroundings
The Vall Fosca, located in the Pyrenees, in the north of the Pallars Jussà region, is a suggestive setting in which the water, the mountains, the most varied vegetation and different species of animals coexist harmoniously.
The valley begins at 800 m and the highest village is Capdella which is located at an altitude of 1420 meters and closes the set of 19 rural villages that make up the Vall Fosca: the Pobleta de Bellveí, Estavill, Envall, Antist, Castell-estaó , Beranui, La Plana de Mont-ros, Astell, Obeix, Aguiró, Paüls, Pobellà, Mont-ros, Molinos, La Torre de Capdella, Aiguabella, Espui and the Central de Capdella.
The river Flamisell is the axis of the valley. During its journey we will be able to enjoy a constantly changing landscape that will take us to the top of the Vall Fosca where there is the cable car that gives access to the National Park of Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici Lake, and where we can visit more than 30 ponds.
